Obituary

TROY –
Carol I. Burke, a lifelong resident of Troy, New York, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the age of 83 in her hometown.
Born in Troy on March 23, 1942, to James and Muriel (Carden) Upton, Carol grew up in the area she loved and lived her entire life. She was a proud graduate of Lansingburgh High School and went on to complete her education at the Troy School of Beauty Culture, a path that led to a vibrant career as the owner of Carol's Hair Palace for 37 years. Beyond her entrepreneurial spirit, Carol also contributed her talents to Garden Way Manufacturing for 12 years and Team Goewey Dodge for 6 years.
In 1963, she married the love of her life, Michael D. Burke, Sr., in Troy. Their life together centered around family. Carol was a patient and selfless wife, mother, and grandmother, known for her bubbly personality and her deep devotion to all her family and friends—and her beloved dogs. She was a woman who was truly loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Carol's memory is cherished by her husband, Michael D. Burke Sr, and their children, Michael D. Burke, Jr. (Kate Burke) and Debra A. Skaarup (Thomas Skaarup). She leaves behind a beautiful legacy in her grandchildren, Shelby Piper, Courtnie Burke, and Hannah Bulson, and her great-grandchildren, Finn Piper, Adalynn Bulson, Jaxon Bulson, and Cohen Bulson.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated Samaritan Hospital staff, especially Dr. Benjamin Wind and Raphael Papaleo, for their compassionate care during Carol's final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol's memory to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society at 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204, an organization close to her heart given her love for dogs.
Services will not be held at this time. The family will host a celebration of Carol's life at a future date, to be announced. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family, online at: SimpleChoicesCremation.com
