GANSEVOORT –
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Danny H. Bigness, 68, of Gansevoort, formerly of Greenwich, who departed this life on February 1, 2026, at Saratoga Hospital. Born on April 12, 1957, in Albany, New York, he was the son of the late Donald K. Bigness Sr. and Mary Bigness.
Raised in Albany and East Greenbush, Danny attended Columbia High School. He dedicated many years to his profession as a construction worker for HRS Construction of East Greenbush. A familiar and protective figure in Greenwich, where he resided from 1989 to 2024, Danny served with distinction for a decade as a crossing guard for the Village of Greenwich Police Department.
Danny was deeply involved in his community, notably through his volunteer work at the Greenwich Youth Center. He was a man of extraordinary character, possessing a rare gift for turning strangers into lifelong friends. Known for his quick wit, playful sense of humor, and infectious laughter, Danny was a magnetic presence who brought warmth and joy to every room he entered.
Above all, Danny was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He showed his love through his unwavering support, rarely missing a school event or milestone for his daughters and grandchildren. His protective nature and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Danny is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Pamela Bigness, whom he married on October 27, 2001, in Greenwich, NY. He is also survived by his daughters: Nichole Scunziano (Ralph) of Castleton-on-Hudson, NY; Tara Bigness of Gansevoort, NY; and Alyssa Bigness (Aiden) of Latham, NY. He leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Christian, Cody, Alyce, Faye, Katrena, and RJ.
He is also survived by his brothers: Donald Bigness Jr. (Donna), Frank Bigness (Regina), Joseph Bigness (Karen), Robert Bigness, and Paul Bigness. Additionally, he is survived by his brother-in-law Michael Matteo, brother-in-law James Mackey (Kathy), and sister-in-law Carmella Mackey. Danny was preceded in death by his sister Dawn Matteo, his parents, his grandchild Brinsley Brown, his brother-in-law Barry Mackey, his sister-in-law Sharon Carlina and his parents-in-law, Geraldine and Robert Mackey.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff of Saratoga Hospital Palliative Care, Dr. Delmonte Jr. and his staff at Saratoga Hospital Medical Group Oncology/Hematology, and the Saratoga Radiation Oncology Center for their compassionate care.
In accordance with Danny’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private remembrance will be held for the family at a later date.
