Obituary

SARATOGA SPRINGS -

On January 10, 2026, Elaine peacefully passed away at the age of 83 in Glens Falls with family by her side. She is predeceased by her parents Cecil Richard and Edna May Sandercox, her husband Thomas Wood, former husband George Kunkle, and siblings: George Foremon, Donald Sandercox, Dorothy Maltais, Chucky Sandercox, Billy Sandercox, Tommy Sandercox, Carol VanAlstyne, Johnny Sandercox, and Gloria Rock.

Elaine was a gentle soul whose quiet strength and kindness touched everyone who knew her. Born and raised in Troy, she grew up as one of ten children, a large family that shaped her warm and caring nature.

Elaine dedicated many years of her career to working at a window company, where her hard work and reliability were admired. Outside of work, Elaine found her greatest joy in her family. She lovingly raised two children, Debbie Shaw and Jimmy Kunkle, who were always the center of her world. Her family later grew to include her son-in-law, Stan Shaw, and her heart was filled with happiness as she embraced her role as grandmother to her only grandchild, Krista Flanders (David). Krista affectionately called her “Daboo,” a name Elaine cherished.

Elaine had a gift for making others feel cherished, and one of the ways she expressed that love was through her cooking. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and celebration, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas, when her homemade Boston brown bread and stuffing became beloved traditions. Watching family and friends enjoy her meals brought her immense joy, and those moments around her table will forever be treasured.

Elaine also opened her heart and home in ways that went beyond family. She made Christine (Gerry) feel as though she was her own child, that was simply who Elaine was: loving, generous, and welcoming to all.

The family is deeply grateful for the kind and compassionate care Elaine received from the dedicated team at the Pines Nursing Home in Glens Falls and extends heartfelt thanks to Simple Choices Cremation Service for their professional guidance and unwavering support during this difficult time.

Her departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration. A private celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
