Gladys Oakley, age 90 passed away
at Albany Memorial Hospital on 12/27/2017
from respiratory failure.
Gladys had been a resident of Hudson Park Rehab
and Nursing Home since October 2013, in Albany,NY.
Gladys was born on December 1, 1927 in
Ridgewood Queens, NY. She was the daughter
of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Troy) Walsh,
sister of the late Richard Walsh and sister-in-law of Joan Walsh.
Gladys is survived by her 4 children, Denise (Mark) Serrapica,
Steven (Deb) Oakley, Lawrence (Ethna) Oakley
and Lorianne (Oakley) Collins, 9 grand-children
and 11 great-grandchildren.
Gladys was a longtime resident of Hauppauge, LI, NY.
Gladys's passion was singing. She spent 15+ years
singing with " The Festival Singers" a choral group from
Smithtown, LI, NY. They performed Operetta's from
Gilbert and Sullivan and many other composers.
Gladys also sang as a church choir member at
St. Patrick's church in Smithtown, LI, NY, for many
many years. Gladys worked as a data processor in
the late 70's-80's. She helped pioneer the new
residential information services for the 911 system
for several fire departments on Long Island,
Florida and Alabama. Gladys was also a bowling enthusiast.
She spent many years traveling all over NY, with friends and
teammates competing in tournaments.
