Obituary

EAST GREENBUSH –

James Jay Reilly, known to many as “J.J.,” a lifelong resident of East Greenbush, New York, passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 42. Born at St. Peter’s Hospital to Jay and Patricia Reilly (Colvin), James was a man deeply rooted in his community and his heritage.

A proud graduate of LaSalle Institute, James channeled his talent and strong work ethic into a successful career as a self-employed mechanic. As the owner and operator of J&J Automotive and Truck Repair in East Greenbush, he was a trusted fixture in the local community, known for his skill and dedication to his trade.

James took immense pride in his Irish heritage and found great solace and joy in the stirring sounds of bagpipe music. Above all his professional and personal interests, his greatest and most profound joy was the time he spent with his daughters. He was a devoted father whose love for "his girls" was the cornerstone of his life.

He is survived by his beloved children, Bailey Reilly, Lily Reilly, and Harlo Reilly; his parents, Jay and Patricia; and his sisters, Heather Goodall, Rebecca LaRose (Mark), Jaymie Columbus (Edward), and Elizabeth Reilly. He also leaves behind his former wife and mother of his children, Sara Reilly, along with a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the American Legion, Melvin Roads Post, located at 200 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer, NY 12144. A Prayer Service will be held at the legion at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
