ALBANY- John Culkin passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on October 24, 2022, at 7:56pm. John was born on August 26th in Rochester, NY and grew up in Syracuse, NY. He is the son of Jerome and Elizabeth (Whelan) Culkin. He is survived by his brothers, Donald (Maria) Culkin of Fulton, Edward (Mica) Culkin of East Syracuse, and many nieces and nephews he adored. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Robert Culkin and his sister, Mary Theresa (Culkin) Gaines. John was a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces and was honorably discharged in 1966. He spent most of his life serving the Roman Catholic Diocese as a clergyman providing support and service to all to whom he served. John will be remembered most of all for his kindness, positivity, laughter, and his strong Catholic beliefs. He was considered a "Historian" of family history. He was passionate about learning and reciting historic facts about people and places. John was proud of his Irish family heritage and history. He was a loyal brother, loving son, and beloved uncle. He had a soft-spoken manner and a caring, loving personality that made an impact in so many lives. John was a kind-hearted, social soul who enjoyed being around people. He was a pillar of strength to others and a true gentleman that had an infectious laugh that one could not help to smile when around him. His true love and devotion to his family and friends were unconditional. He will be truly missed by all that had the honor of knowing him. Cremation took place through the care of Simple Choice, Inc. Inurnment with Military Honors will be held on Friday, October 28th at 2:30PM at the Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. Please assemble at the cemetery entrance no later than 2:15PM to join the funeral cortege.
