On March 22, 2026, John Joseph Roche peacefully booked his final passage.

His journey began on November 2, 1935, alongside his twin sister, Dolly, in Rathdrum. His was a path that led him from the coal-darkened tunnels of Newcastle Upon Tyne to the bright lights of the city that never sleeps, yet his heart never truly left the Wicklow Mountains. To those who knew him best, he was, is, and will always be the lad from Glendalough, with his flat cap, a mischievous wink, and his faithful border collie, Jack, at his heel.

May the mist of the Wicklow hills fall gently upon his journey home as John now embarks on a final crossing of the Atlantic and beyond, bound for Ballymote to lie forever by the side of his beloved wife Mary. They are both dearly missed by their son, Martin, their family, and their many friends.
