Averill Park, NY John Joseph Shoemaker, Sr., 83, of Averill Park, passed away peacefully at the Stratton VA Medical Center on October 22, 2016 with the "love of his life" by his side, his partner of 36 years, Irene D. Cummings. A Korean War Veteran, he is survived by many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends. He was a loving, gentle soul and "Poppy" to all. The family wishes to thank all the nurses, doctors and staff in the ICU and 7B units, and a very special thanks to Dr. Le for all her dedication and compassion. Per his wishes, there will be no viewing or formal funeral services. A memorial service will be at a later date.
