IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth Hjalmar
Roinos
August 4, 1941 – December 22, 2025
GLENVILLE -
Kenneth Hjalmar Roinos: a husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away in peace on Monday, December 22, 2025 at home with family.
Ken’s eighty-four years of sharing his wisdom, love, and humor to anyone he touched will define his legacy.Born on August 4, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY, Ken graduated from New Jersey Institute of Technology and built a successful career in technically advanced machinery products, including ultra high efficiency steam turbines for cogeneration and sophisticated robotic automation systems. His career included successful marketing and engineering positions at Terry Turbine Co., MTI Turbonetics, Inc., and Robotics, Inc. He spent his last years of his career building his own company, RLJ Inc.Ken loved spending his summer days with Ruth and their girls at their condo in Cape Cod. Some of his favorite memories were spending time with his family on Cape Cod. He was thrilled when he got to see his grandchildren’s, Thor and Ingrid, baseball games. He also was an active bird watcher and lover of nature in general. Ken was an enthusiastic social soul, always jumping at the opportunity to meet with friends, dine out, or attend a musical, ballet, or opera.A proud Norwegian by ancestry, Ken relished in sharing copies of the notable “Viking Laws” with any and all. These simple, but profound rules of living a good life exemplified Ken’s gentle wisdom, philosophy, and get-it-done nature. Having spent a good deal of time in NYC and New Jersey, Ken enjoyed New York’s Capital District and Glenville neighborhood, though he often brought out his “New Joysey” spunk when necessary. In addition to many, many friends, Ken will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Roinos of Glenville, daughter Julie Roinos of Brooklyn, daughter Laura and husband Atul Sanghi of Ballston Lake, grandchildren Thor and Ingrid as well as his sister Connie Brodland of Phoenix, AZ. Ken was predeceased by his parents Rodney and Alice Roinos. Past and present congregants and ministers of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady will particularly miss his active participation and prescient insight of spiritual matters developed over years of membership. We don’t need to say “rest in peace” at this time for dear Ken, as we are sure the Lord will keep this beloved old Viking busy spreading more of his wonderful inspiring memories and touches of grace (albeit from afar) to all who knew him.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s name may be made to City Mission of Schenectady or the charity of one’s choice. Ken requested a memorial celebration of his life and legacy which be scheduled and announced in the near future. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family, online at: SimpleChoicesCremation.com
