Laverne (Verne) J. Winnie Jr. 9/21/1969 to 5/22/2026

Laverne J. Winnie Jr. of Rotterdam, NY passed away after a long and valiant fight with End Stage Renal Disease and Coronary Artery Disease. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Laverne Sr. and Roberta (née Hotaling), his beloved sister Victoria (Vicki) Hicks and his adored daughter Kayla.

Verne had a zest for life. He enjoyed attending baseball and football games, and Nascar races. His favorite pastime was riding with Shiloh, his ride or die canine companion. They often got in the car and drove aimlessly, always ending the trip with a flavored iced tea and a pup cup. Shiloh crossed the Rainbow Bridge on May 11, 2024. He was a member of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame and enjoyed visiting there and attending games with his brother Jay

Verne was a Private First Class in the US Army National Guard from 1988 to 1992. His most recent employer was Curtis Lumber, where he made many lifelong friends.

Verne is survived by his long time companion Janet Wynne and their dog Faith, his brothers Jason (Jay) Winnie, Zak Winnie, sisters Rebecca Bombardier and Krystal Winnie, and his brother in law Donald Hicks as well as his aunt Suzanne Palmatier, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was always giving to others and compassionate and forgiving to a fault. In light of that, the family is requesting donations in Verne’s name to The Lucky Puppy Rescue, 511 Pleasant Valley Road, Argyle, NY 12809 if you are able and willing to do so.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in Verne’s memory.
