Lavina “Vi” Morgia, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home after an extended illness. Born on September 24, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lavina (Drost) Miller of Castleton.

Vi graduated from Columbia High School and took a job with the American Telephone Company in Albany. She soon married and raised a family in Rensselaer and would often be found working in the family-run tavern. In later years, Vi was employed as a payroll clerk for the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles.

Her favorite activity was dancing and over the years took lessons in tap, jazz, Irish step-dancing, country line dancing and clogging. She was a long-time member of the Hill Country Cloggers and loved performing in various settings, including nursing homes, county fairs, and churches. She truly enjoyed the art of dance. Vi was also an avid gardener and never missed an opportunity to show off her impressive flowers.

Her greatest joy though was her family. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Morgia; daughter, Lavina Williams (Sean); and son, Adam Morgia (Rhonda). Cherished grandmother of Paul Fiacco (Cassandra); Cynthia Heim (Pete); Justine Morgia (Bill Mackey); Katherine Godfrey; Rebecca Gibson (Zach); Lindsey Godfrey (Jon Curley); Tyler Morgia (Katie); and Chelsea Morgia (Mark Barry). Vi is also survived by her ten great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Morgia, Jr.; her brother, Robert Miller, Jr.; and her grandson, Victor T. Morgia.

Vi was loved and will be deeply missed by family and friends. There are no planned services at this time, and a celebration of life will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Association.
