TROY – Michael "Mickey" DeBonis, 83, of Troy, passed away peacefully at a nursing home on January 3, 2023, after a short illness. He is survived by his many cousins and other family members. Born on June 24, 1939, son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Bagarose) DeBonis. Mickey grew up at 289 Fourth Street and spent most of life in Troy. Mickey's profession as a hairstylist, took him to Boston and NYC where he worked for several large hotels. His high-profile clients included such names as Elizabeth Taylor and Steve McQueen. Ever a Trojan, Mickey stayed close to his Troy roots and the Collar City throughout his life. In the '60s Mickey opened and operated his own shop, House of Michael, on Third St. in downtown Troy. A devoted son, Mickey returned from Boston, to care for his aging mother, and continued to work as hair stylist in Troy up until the early 90's. Before retiring, Mickey enjoyed his last few working years at Walmart on Hoosick St. A quick wit, Mickey was best known for his dry, cutting humor. Always, the life of the party, Mickey brought joy and laughter to all those around him. Famous for his independent mindset and lifestyle, he always had a different perspective on things, and was never timid about sharing his opinions, which were always presented with humor and intelligence. Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. An intimate prayer service will be performed graveside in the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy on Saturday, March 11, 2023, beginning at 10 o'clock with Deacon Chuck Wojton, officiating.
