Obituary

ROTTERDAM -

Paul “Skeeter” Lengyel, born December 17, 1955, in Stuttgart, Germany, passed away on January 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of those who knew him best. Skeet was truly one of a kind, and his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.

He grew up in Slingerlands, NY, graduating from Guilderland High School and later attending Hudson Valley Community College. He was proud of his work and his skills, earning certification as a Nuclear Machinist and Welder. For more than 40 years, he owned and operated his own business (SMF), pouring his time, talent, and determination into everything he did.

Music was at the heart of Skeet’s life. He was a passionate audiophile, a gifted sound engineer, and a bassist, deeply connected to the art of sound. During the 1980s, he worked with several local bands, helping shape their sound and sharing his technical expertise and love of music. Skeet especially loved The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and The Cars, and took great pride in his collection of Ampex recording equipment. He also found joy and peace in his longtime hobby of model trains.

He made his home in Schenectady for 45 years, where he built a life with his partner and love, Dreama. Their bond was one of devotion, companionship, and shared passions.

Skeet is survived by his partner, Dreama D’Ortona; his mother, Mae Lengyel; his stepson, David D’Ortona, and daughter-in-law, Jenilee; his grandchildren Addison and Landon D’Ortona; his grandchildren Michael Hallenbeck Jr. and Nicholas Hallenbeck, of Phoenix, AZ; and his brothers, David and Michael Lengyel.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul E. Lengyel; his sister, Brenda Lengyel; and his stepdaughter, Megan Hallenbeck, whom he always carried in his heart.

Skeet will be remembered for his creativity, his love of music, and his unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He lived life his own way, with passion and purpose, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of Skeet’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family, online at: SimpleChoicesCremation.com
