Peter J. McGrath

Peter Joseph McGrath, age 67, of Troy, passed away on July 3 surrounded by family and friends. A lifelong resident of Troy, NY, Peter was the son of Alfred Joseph McGrath and Mary Ann Cuerdon.

 Peter was a graduate of Troy High School and spent his career as a stalwart provider for his family as a cook, driver, and factory technician. Peter’s friends and family will remember him fondly for his love of guitar and music. Peter never met a park that wasn’t fit for an acoustic guitar performance and spent his life enjoying the vibrant music scene throughout the Capital Region. Peter loved the outdoors, especially the countless summers at his family cabin on Pine Lake, and was lauded by his loved ones for his skill in making pizzas and strombolis. 

Peter is survived by his children Aaron McGrath (Stephanie) and Kelly Pilato (Shane); sister Sharon Stevens; nephews Andrew and James Stevens; and his grandchildren Margeaux, Paisley, Frances, Bronwyn, and Fielding (Kelly’s children) and Owen and Bennett (Aaron’s children). He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Peggy Watson, brother Patrick, and his dearest twin sister Paula.

A celebration of life will be held on August 1st at 1pm at Veterans of Lansingburgh in Troy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Peter’s memory by treating yourself to some live music.
