Obituary

Peter J. Smith, 63, died peacefully on July 8, 2018 at the Hospice Inn with his beloved wife by his side.  He was one of four children born in Albany, NY to the late George W Smith and the late Maud Jessie (Davies) Smith.

Pete lived most of his life in this area. He proudly served inthe U.S. Army (Special Forces) and was a Medic; he also served in the Army Reserve.  He previously was a volunteer fireman for the Schuyler Heights Fire District. Pete worked for the Watervliet Arsenal as a civilian and loved his job. He also held several other jobs.  Pete was an avid sports fan, especially of the NY Giants and NY Yankees. He was also a proud member of the Polish American Citizens Club where he had many friends and loved listening to his oldies music. Pete also loved watching his old movies, military movies and history.

Besides his parents, Pete was predeceased by two brothers:  Michael G. Smith and Brian Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife Sophie Smith; daughter Nicole C. Smith; brother David W. Smith; step-daughter Christine L. Sands (Trevor); step-son Walter M. Cocco (Loree-Ann Serrano); proud Papa to Siara C. Cocco, Gianna M. Cocco, Turbo and Lexus; several step nieces and step nephews as well as several cousins here and in England. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Community Hospice (Jen), the Hospice Inn, Pete's co-workers at the Watervliet Arsenal, and friends at the PACC for their compassion, help and thoughtfulness. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning, July 13 th at 10 AM  from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception , 125 Eagle Street, Albany, NY 12202 with Rev. John Tallman officiating.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend.  Interment immediately following the mass will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871, at 12 Noon.
