Ronald VanAlstyne, age 70, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on October 4, 1955 in Albany, NY, Ronald lived a life defined by his devotion and love for his family.

He had a joy for many different hobbies such as fishing, bowling, and golfing. He was always our handy-man and spent time making and fixing many things. Most of all, he enjoyed his time together with his family.

Ron’s greatest legacy is his family. He is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of 47 years, Karla VanAlstyne (Laier); his dearly loved children, Brian and Stephanie VanAlstyne, Erin and Mark Foster; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Logan, Lily, Xander, and beloved grand pup Ace.

He is also survived by his devoted brother and best friend Paul Deere (Marsha) and brothers and sisters Patti Ciraulo (Phil), Linda Rosenthal, Alfred Deere (Nancy) and Patrick Kain (Sunita). He had many beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Shirley Kain and sister Laura.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Community Hospice for their compassionate care and support during his final days.

In keeping with Ronald’s humble nature and final wishes, the family will not be holding a public service. He preferred to be remembered in the hearts of those who knew him through private reflection and shared stories.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ronald’s honor to St. Jude’s Children Hospital and Safe At Last Animal Rescue.
