Obituary

Town of Schodack, NY- Sharon Avner Kapilian passed away this past Thursday morning in her home on a country road that she joyfully shared with her daughter Claudia and son in law John. She was 93 and had lived an active and creative life as an artist, teacher and learner. She was a painter who got her start in the WPA art classes in New York City; a jewelry maker; an avocational numismatist of international reputation; a breeder and judge at national and international cat shows; and an antique dealer. She taught on Long Island as a classroom teacher and later as a reading specialist. In retirement she studied computer science at SUNY New Paltz. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan and Claudia, who she often said were her most important contributions to the universe, along with her "kick-ass" grandson Peter and multi-talented granddaughter Sarah. Those traits can be directly traced back to their multi-talented kick-ass Grandma! Our family wishes to thank Community Hospice for their invaluable support and responsiveness helping my mama to remain in her home during a very trying time. – ckj
