Virginia Lee Lounsbery of Cobleskill, formerly a resident of Carlisle, passed away on January 18, 2026, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York, at the age of 84.
Born on November 17, 1941, in Worcester, New York, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Elvira Barton. Virginia was raised in Worcester and was a graduate of Worcester High School.
In 1963, Virginia married Peter Lounsbery, and they raised their four children in Carlisle. During her family-rearing years, she found pleasure in gardening, attended the former St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sharon Springs, and taught Sunday School classes.
In later years, Virginia was employed by several local businesses, including the former Cameo Bridal shop and the Grapevine Farms gift shops. She was loved by her colleagues for her compassionate nature, sense of humor, and supportive demeanor.
She also took great delight in caring for her great-niece and nephews, and subsequently her grandchildren. Her family was blessed by her gentle counsel, patient understanding, and quiet devotion.
Virginia is survived by three of her children: Theresa Terns (Bill), Peter Lounsbery, and Midge Willwerth (Jeffery).
Her grandchildren include: Lauren Ancona (Scott), Michaela Parshall (Ryan), and Nathan Terns.
Virginia is survived by her two brothers Howard Barton and Fred Barton, and is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her son, Douglas Lounsbery, as well as by her three sisters: Goldie Purcell, Frances Brown, and Dorthy Brooker.
